Fight Against COVID-19: POS Foundation Donates to Sunyani Central Prison

POS Foundation presents a cheque to Sunyani Central Prison

The POS Foundation, facilitators of the Justice for All Programme has donated assorted items to the Sunyani Central Prison to augment their efforts in the fight against a possible outbreak in Ghana's Prisons.

The Executive Director of POS Foundation, Jonathan Osei Owusu commended the Ghana Prison Service for their strict adherence to the protocols and show of professionalism in their work as the country continues to fight the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Foundation called on the Presidency to as a matter of urgency get the Legislative and Constitutional Instruments for Parole and Probation to help reduce the rate of congestion in Ghana's Prisons.

The Foundation further called on the President to extend the amnesty to petty offenders and non-violent drug users to decongest the Prisons.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Commander of Ghana Prisons Service, DDP Asamoah Tenning who received the donations on behalf of the Prisons said the Prison was grateful to the foundation and its developmental partners for the kind gesture in safeguarding the Prisons against COVID-19.

He stated that the donations received by the Prisons so far is to augment the protocols set by the Ghana Prison Service in the fight against a possible outbreak of the virus in the Prisons.

The Foundation presented items that included Vitamin C, Hand Sanitizers, Veronica Buckets, Temperature Guns , Hand Washing Machines , Gloves, Liquid Soaps among others.

The Foundation organised a training workshop for Prison Officers of Sunyani Central Prison on COVID-19 and its Security implication.

The training was to equip the Prison Officers with the necessary and safety protocols to observe as the Prison continues to put in place measures to help prevent any a case of COVID-19 in the Prison.

The Donation was funded by OSIWA under the COVID-19 Prisons Response Outreach Project.
